Interesting day so far....

The day was looking good until I went into the bedroom to get clothes and take a shower. The sight and smell that greeted me was...was...words escape me. Kitty pee all over DH's pillow and Teddy was desperately trying to cover it all up. Maddie was hiding under the bed knowing that there had been a bad mistake made. There was so much that I have to think both of them used the same spot. My 1st thought was oh crap someone is sick. They've never been naughty or made any messes like this. Then I went to the laundry room to get things to clean it up and what is there but a closed door....to the room that their litter box is in. Now I understand. I had the grandkids yesterday afternoon and the door got closed by someone. Poor kitties held it as long as they could. Now I feel guilty but I'm also hoping that they don't decide that they like the bed for a litter pan.

The good part of the day is that the Leaf Lace Shawl is coming along nicely. See the little ball of yarn? That is the remainder of the 1st ball and Cookie was good enough to give me an excellent idea on how to join to the next ball. Russian Join. You are super Cookie. I know you want everyone to think you are a Crankypants but you really are a Sweetheart!


I had sewing plans for today. I have 2 pairs of jeans to shorten for my sister and a zipper to replace in a pair of jeans for her granddaughter, my great niece. And DH wants 9 shirts to go from being long sleeved to short sleeved. That's a lotta sewing and if the cat pee is an indication on how the day is going to go maybe I should put off the sewing until a later date!

Baking, baking, and cooking and a tiny bit of knitting

Last weekend was our little town's annual celebration and a new thing this year was a dessert contest. Well, I baked 2 pans of Caramel Chocolate Bars. Very gooey and rich. Yummy looking yes? Well, they didn't win anything....not that I expected to. :)



Then within 3 days of each other is DH and 1st DDIL's birthdays. So I baked a cake. New recipe for both the cake and the frosting. Was a bit sweet and I doubled the frosting recipe and got a bit carried away with how much I put on. Do you see the overhang on the side of the cake? Yeah, a bit much.




Yesterday was our annual wheat test plot tour and I cooked a picnic supper for afterwords. Calico beans, pulled BBQ beef, brats, potato salad, buns and brownies. Sorry, no picture of the food....it was mostly eaten and the leftovers given to family. But this is the mess that I faced this morning. Augh.





And I've done just a bit of knitting. This is the 3rd and probably last little hat I'm doing for our grandbaby due the end of September. I think it's the cutest one. It's a combination of patterns. The hat is "Little Rosebud" by Rita Weiss and the flower is crocheted and is part of the pattern for "New York Skully" by Nancy Brown. The yarn is RY Cashsoft Baby DK. Very nice yarn, BTW.

Hats, sweater and supper last night.

This is the umbilical cord hat or as the pattern is call Hospital Hat. It is made out of Caron Simply Soft in Pink. I had it completed in one evening. And started on the next one...








This is Baby Hat from the book "One Skein" by Leigh Radford. I love this book. This cap is the 1st thing I've made from it but I have my eye on several other things. The round rug at the back of the book really has me interested. The cap is made from Debbie Bliss Cashmerino in Carnation. I finished the cap the next day. It took about the same amount of time as the 1st one.




Here is the finished sweater. Seamless Yoked Baby Sweater. I still am not totally happy with the end results. I don't know if I like the ruffle or the buttons or the placement of the decorative stitches at the bottom of the body. And I'm still not fond of the color. But I don't think I want to redo so many things and it will probably stay just as it is. It also is made from Debbie Bliss Cashmerino in Carnation.






And this is leftovers from supper last night. Oh was this good. Corn salsa. Made from scratch. An eyeball and stir kind of thing. I had 3 recipes in front of me and just used the parts that I liked the best. Are you interested in what's in it??

Here's the recipe. Such as it is....

4 ears of corn, wrapped in foil, cooked on the grill for a few minutes, cut off cob and cooled.
1 tomato, seeded and chopped.
Purple onion, diced, about 1/3 C.
1/2 of a Red bell pepper, diced.
1/4 of a jalepeno pepper, minced.
I didn't have cilantro so I threw in a generous amount of dried parsley.
A glug of olive oil.
Juice of 1/2 of a lime.
1/2 tsp kosher salt and a dash of pepper.
It was all mixed together & in the fridge while I cooked some pork chops on the grill. Yum Yummy!

This is one of those recipes that you can add more or less of things depending how you like it.

Sweater finished and living with a TV star

I got the pink baby sweater finished on Friday evening. I'll try to get a picture of it soon. It's cloudy today and it wouldn't be a good pic. But it is done!! Now I have plans for maybe as many as 3 little hats. I've got 2 different yarns that are 50 grams each. One of the patterns calls for 2 ounces. 50 grams = 1.7 ounce. Uff. I'm going to just give it a go and hope for the best. The owner of the yarn shop said 50 grams should be enough for a little hat and I would think so too. crossing fingers

DH was on the news last night. He got a call in the afternoon from a local station asking if he'd like to discuss scab (wheat disease). He said he didn't know if he knew enough about it but he'd give it a try. (He does you know, he was just being humble.) The reporter and cameraman came out from Grand Forks and did the interview in a wheat field by town here. It was on the 10 pm news last night. There have been a couple people who've called him a TV star today. He did a good job and the reporter had told him that he might be back in the fall during harvest to visit with him again. Hoot!

Answers, Ideas, Advice Requested. help me......

This is the pink baby sweater I've been talking about. It's done with Debbie Bliss Cashmerino. Love the yarn BTW. It's done in the newborn size of Seamless Yoked Baby Sweater.

I've got questions, requests for ideas and advice...

The ruffle is something that I added. It isn't part of the pattern. Is the ruffle too much? Will it hurt to lean against or sit on if they actually use the sweater and put her in a carseat?


Which buttons should I use? It won't be 6 buttons but I put that many so you could see what they look like better. (poor english)

Do you think the sleeve is long enough? It's 7". The pattern is very unclear about how long to make it. I've done 6" before and that is really short.

Unfortunately the color is closer on the 1st picture. I would love it if it was the same as the 2nd picture. sigh. I actually thought it was like the 2nd picture when I bought it. Hazard of internet shopping.

Various things and a early wish for a Happy 4th!

I stayed up a bit later than usual last night and did the statements at the seed plant. Got home about 1 am. Was so nice to have them done this morning though. Just take 'em to the PO and send them on their way.

I babysat DGKs yesterday. We got out the tote with all the old Halloween costumes in it and they played dress up for a big part of the day. I got some cute pictures.

The pink baby sweater has a couple issues. There is a brain fart involved. The decorative stitches are misplaced at the bottom because I was counting rows instead of ridges and I put them in too soon and now with the ruffle being added on the bottom it is starting to look a little odd. Maybe if I take a picture and look at it on the computer I'd be able to see if it will be acceptable.....

So, there are potatoes and eggs to boil for potato salad and maybe brownies to bake. It'll be the usual stuff for the 4th. Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, DDIL's grape salad (it's really good), chips and dip, macaroni salad, watermelon and in the afternoon root beer floats. I'm feeling rather full just looking at the menu! :)
