Norwegian Woods Shawl ferdig*!!

Since we had a bit of snow left I couldn't resist using it as a backdrop!

The Norwegian Woods Shawl (Ravelry link) is ferdig*!!

I love the springy color of the yarn even if it is fall/winter now.





















I love the pattern. It was easy to do and fun that the design changes.

Let me warn you though, HiyaHiya needles are not the ones to use for lace. They just aren't pointy enough and the cord fights you every step of the way. It was the only size 3 that I had when I started this so I kept with them but disliked them all through the whole project.




















I did different beading than the pattern calls for. You can see them a little on this picture....

I really like the stitch definition of the yarn. It's Cascade Heritage.

And a couple days ago DH & I sat at the kitchen table and voted. I just think it's the best way to vote that anyone ever thought up!

And if you don't vote you shouldn't complain about the government. So this gives me the right to whine a little! ;)






* Ferdig is Norwegian for finished. Yes I'm an American that is full-blooded Norwegian but I don't speak it so I googled.

Not a blizzard....but some snow!

We've got snow.



















And we definitely have wind.
















But it's the wet heavy snow that doesn't blow around...






















but just sticks to things and....























makes the perfect icy snowball!

Blizzard Warning!!

We are in a blizzard warning until tomorrow (Wednesday) evening! I can't remember a real blizzard this early in the season. Snow yes. Blizzard no. But we sure have the wind for it. If all this rain that we are getting now turns into snow overnight we'll have a blizzard for sure and the National Weather Service is predicting 100% chance of snow tomorrow.

Our worker from Brazil is hoping for snow. He might get more than he expected!

There is soup making planned for tonight and knitting too. ;)

/I wonder if I have fresh yeast for some bread tomorrow.....

As seen in the sky

As I was traveling to church, a couple weeks ago, there was this tiny bit of a rainbow.

And again last night I was going to church for a council meeting and there was this wonderful sunset.

I moved my camera slightly to the right and found more pretty colors.

And when I turned around to get back in my car there was the moon in a beautiful blue sky.

And this morning a sunrise that was almost as pretty as the sunset last night.

The sky is giving us good things right now but next week it could give us our first flakes of snow! Oh my!

Are you watching?

I'm at work paying bills but took a break to watch one of the Chile miners being rescued. It's amazing and touching and yes it brings tears to my eyes. One of the news reporters said it is equal to our walk on the moon and I think it is. The technology looks simple and complex at the same time. If you can see even one of them coming to the surface, it will probably be something that you'll always remember.

Hurray! They are all coming home!

I went out one evening to ride along on the combine.** The sun was just going down and though not as impressive as most of North Dakota sunsets this was pretty in an understated way.







The haze in the air is from the combining. Soybeans are very dusty and there was almost no wind that evening.

If you click to make the picture bigger, you can see the grain cart and one of the trucks off to the right side.

The lake in the background is Stump Lake. A few years ago it was mostly dry but because of Devils Lake running into it, it has gotten huge. To the point that roads have been closed or moved. If you have a few extra minutes the story on Devils Lake is quite interesting.

As you can see in the pictures above it was sunset but it quickly got dark and the lights on the combine had to come on and this was the view of the field.

Here we are unloading into the grain cart. He*** travels around the field empying the combines and then takes the grain to the edge of the field where the trucks are parked and unloads into the trucks. The trucks then drive several miles to the grain bins to unload.

*Yes there really is a buddy seat in the combine. Not very comfortable but it's better than sitting on an upside down 5 gallon bucket like I used to sit on to ride along!!

**The guys (DH and 1st DS) have been running the combines for weeks now. I don't know how they stand sitting in those combines day after day. I ride along occasionally with DH to provide a bit of distraction! 3rd DS drives the trucks and says it is a big help to get to drive down the road to break up the monotony.

***We have 2 foreign workers. One is from Moldova and also drives a grain truck during harvest. And the 2nd fellow is from Brazil and he is driving the tractor and grain cart this year.
